Verses 1-3:Â
Blessed is the man who does not walk in agreement with ungodly people. Neither does he stand attentively to take the advice of sinners to keep him on the right path.
Nor does he ever sit in their company listening to derogatory jokes about God or His people. His time is much too precious to spend hearing miserable men (whose lives are a pitiful expression of potential) mocking God and others to avoid the pain of seeing themselves.
This man, who is blessed, finds utter enjoyment in the law of the LORD;
and his life inspires hope in others that there is a better way to live.
Verses 4-6:Â
However, the way of those who oppose God’s word is much different. Whatever pleasure they think they are getting out of life is fleeting. Consequently, doubting God’s existence will catch up to them, and they will dread the day they no longer hear the voice of the righteous.
That’s when the LORD will set them (the wicked and the sinner) apart from his people so that reward and wrath have nothing in common.
